The Continental Party
Reclaiming Our Heritage
God Country Liberty
In the classic 1975 film, “One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” Randle Patrick McMurphy (played by Jack Nicholson) finds himself in a mental institution. He gradually comes to the conclusion that the real lunatics are running the asylum. Head Nurse Ratched is a power and control freak. She is not interested in the welfare of the patients in her ward. If you have not yet arrived at that ah-ha moment concerning who is running the country, consider the following:
The Mortgage Meltdown
The first seed is sown: FDR’s Socialist Manifesto calls for a “Second Bill of Rights” based on “security and prosperity.” One such right is “of every family to a decent home.”
Deteriorating inner city neighborhoods were the inevitable results of Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society Welfare State. Banks were accused of “redlining” and turning down perfectly good credit risks everyday due to pure racism.
The Community Reinvestment Act passed by the 95th United States Congress and signed into law by President Jimmy Carter in 1977.
Under Bill Clinton, banks were forced to make mortgages to unqualified borrowers. But loan repacking agencies like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac wouldn’t buy those loans as they were poor credit risks.
To keep the FDR socialist dream alive, Bill Clinton, Barney Frank, and Chris Dodd created legislation that required these agencies to eventually lend over $1 trillion to people that would not normally qualify for a mortgage. At the peak of the housing boom, over 90% of all loans purchased by Fannie and Freddie were “subprime.”
When the implosion came, as it had to, no one was responsible. The mortgage collapse triggered a financial crisis because US financial institutions spread this toxic paper around the world. Democrats still refuse to admit their roles in this mess. The politicians thought they were smarter than all of the bankers and mortgage professionals who were against “subprime” mortgages until Janet Reno threatened them with legal action.
The Bush Banking Bailout
Every great crisis needs a scapegoat. Lame Duck President George Bush decided to volunteer. With two months left in office, congress passed and Bush signed the $700 billion Trouble Asset Relief Program (T.A.R.P.). Six months later the government can’t even tell where all the money went, let alone measure its effectiveness.
Non-Performance Bonuses
Connecticut Based insurance giant American Insurance Group (AIG) received $182 billion in taxpayer funding and is now 80% owned by the Federal Government.
After first denying any role, Senator Chris Dodd (D) of Connecticut (home state of AIG- interesting?) confirmed a week later that he added language to the $788 billion stimulus bill that allowed AIG to give $165 million in “retention” bonuses to employees. These were the very employees who bankrupted the company with their greed and manipulative, derivative strategy. When the AIG bonuses came to light, the Democrats were publically outraged about the bonuses they allowed and approved with their own legislation. Audacity!
Hurry Up and Stimulate
The house was forced to vote on a $789 billion economic stimulus package after having only half a day to read 1073 pages. It passed without a single Republican vote.At the end of June (five months later)
Barely half of Americans are now confident that the $789 billion stimulus package will boost the economy. So what did we get for our money? The same thing we get from most Federal Programs--- debt. It is the typical over promise and under deliver that Washington D.C. is famous for. The stimulus package contains very few tax breaks for business- the only sector that can create real jobs that produce wealth. It contains millions of dollars for people and institutions filled with voting democrats.
Voracious Appetite
Social Security and Medicare Board of Trustees Annual Report 2009
“The Financial conditional of Social Security and Medicare programs remains challenging. Projected costs are not sustainable under current program parameters. The financial challenges need to be addressed soon.”
The same Federal Government that is incapable of solving the crisis in these Social Welfare Programs wants to take over Health Care. Delusional!
”Once, We Would Have Called It a Scandal"
By Newt Gingrich
There was a time when we would have called it a scandal.
In 1921, oil tycoon Harry Sinclair gave several prize head of cattle and around $269,000 to President Harding’s Secretary of the Interior, Albert Fall.
In return, Sinclair got the exclusive rights to drill in an oil field in Wyoming. Sinclair’s no-bid contract became known as the Teapot Dome Scandal, the most notorious example of political corruption in America prior to Watergate.
Between 2000 and 2008, the United Auto Workers (UAW) union gave $23,675,562 to the Democratic Party and its candidates.
In 2008 alone, the UAW gave $4,161,567 to the Democratic Party, including Barack Obama.
In return, the UAW received 55 percent of Chrysler and 17.5 percent of GM, plus billions of dollars.
But nobody’s calling this a scandal. It’s time we start.”
Lobbying is Entering a Golden Age
Lobbying, like government itself, is a large and complex enterprise. While the number of registered lobbyists in Washington DC doubled between 2000 and 2006 (from about 15,000 to 30,000), many believe the real number is three to four times larger. Much lobbying is hidden from the public view. Given the Obama trajectory of government expansion, the number of lobbyists will certainly grow proportionately.
The Governmentalist Never Met
A Tax He Didn’t Like
Time to be Patriotic
Time to Pay Higher Taxes
Joe Biden,
Vice President
Of the United States
In 1913 the US Tax Code contained 400 pages.
In 2008 the US Tax Code had 67,000 pages and 3,700,000 words.
In 2008 it cost US taxpayers $27.7 billion to prepare their taxes.
Bigger is Better
The Democrats are unabashed about their agenda. They want BIG Government. The Republicans claim to want smaller government, but they just can’t stop themselves. Between 2002 and 2006 under George Bush the number of Federal Employees (including civil servants, contractor employees, and organizations receiving grants) rose from 12.1 million to 14.6 million- a 20% increase.
In 2003, the Bush administration was projecting the largest deficit in American history-$475 billion in 2004. Bush and the Republicans were fearful of losing the 2004 election. They decided to win it by buying the votes of America’s seniors by giving them an expensive new prescription drug program (Medicare Part D). Projected costs between 2004 and 2013 is $400-$550 billion, and adds $17 trillion to the Medicare unfunded liability.
Between 2000 and 2008 the Bush Administration added $1.8 trillion to the Federal Deficit.
George W Bush spent $600 billion on the war in Iraq. Did the taxpayers get their money’s worth? You decide.
Its Only Money-
Your Grandchildren’s Money
Obama to Bush: “I can trump that.” Barack Obama will add $1.84 trillion to the Federal Deficit in 2009 alone.
During the 20 year period from 1989- 2008 total receipts for the Federal Government were $33.7 trillion. The Governmentalists just couldn’t make ends meet, so they borrowed $5.5 trillion and stole another $2.2 trillion from the Social Security Trust Fund. Now these politicians know how to manage our money.
Over the next five years (2009- 2013) the Obama Administration intends to tax Americans for $13.6 trillion, borrow another $5.9 trillion and steal another $787 billion from the Social Security Trust Fund. Obama’s budget calls for a trillion dollar deficit every year he is in office. The official motto on the website of the White House Office of Management and Budget is “A New Era of Responsibility” Shocking to believe that they think the people are that stupid!
WASHINGTON D.C. IS A SICK CITY Those who live and work inside the D.C. Beltway are infected with a virus that causes Beltway Myopia Syndrome, or BMS. Its symptoms include: arrogance, hunger for power, lack of fiscal restraint, disregard for the people, and the belief that they are superior to the rest of the population. The above examples are the result of the “progressive virus” that causes BMS. New examples of the consequences of “Governmentalist” thinking emerge daily. Watch your nightly new (preferably FOX) for more madness.
